Algebra tiles online and on the desk: the value of manipulatives in a secondary mathematics blended classroom

Why are algebra tiles needed when the traditional algorithms are faster? What is the difference between "visualizing" mathematics and "using a tool to extend your thinking"?  We will answer these questions together through activities which use both digital and paper algebra tiles.  You and your students will uncover personal strategies, broaden current ways of thinking, and stretch the traditional ideas around algebraic expression and notation.  Bring your questions about how visualizing tools can help build understanding of polynomials, fractions, and radicals.

Attendees will need to bring laptops to participate fully in this session.
